How To Get Strong Abs

November 15, 2007 on 10:27 pm | In Fitness | No Comments

We always see models on TV showing off their washboard abs and so we want to be just like them. Indeed, when we have a strong midsection, our posture is better and we will look taller and thinner. However, having strong abs isn’t just to look good; it also brings many more health benefits.

A defined midsection is considered the Holy Grail of fitness. If a person has six pack abs, that person is usually considered to be in exceptional shape. I believe it has something to do with the fact that the abdominal area is the last place to lose body fat, so if a man is defined in that area he is probably in great shape overall.

As mentioned before, having a strong midsection improves our posture, which in turn benefits our back so that we don’t constantly complain of lower back pain. When working at an office desk or even just watching TV or driving a car, if we keep our back straight and our abs tight, our back won’t hurt as much. An article in US News and World Report states: “Larger waists can lead to more low-back pain, greater breathing difficulties, and persistent cough.

I am convinced that having six pack abs showing is 95% about your body fat percentage and maybe 5% or less about working the abs. You see, all of us already have a nice six pack…it is just hidden under a layer of fat. I guarantee that if you get your body fat to 10% or lower, you will have amazing six pack abs for the world to see. My recommendation is to drop your ab workout and spend that time on cardio. You want nice abs? Hit the Treadmill or the Elliptical machine or better yet participate in a good cardio dance fitness program. Seriously, it’s the only way you will ever see those abs.

How to Get Nice Abs

November 15, 2007 on 10:15 pm | In Fitness | No Comments

The way to get nice tight abs is often a source of confusion for people. Most people simply decide they want nice abs and start working them in the hope of getting what they want. Lets look at exactly what we want so we can better understand how to get it.

Everybody wants nice tight abs. The reason why is because everybody recognizes, that the abs are the most visually appealing part of the body. There is a technical reason for this. It has to do with the science of Aesthetics. It is actually an optical illusion.

But what do we do when we decide to get a real nice strong set of abs? What can we do? We do what all the trainers suggest and that is to work them. To do ab crunches and sit ups. Makes sense? Of course it does…or does it? When you work your abdominals, you GROW them. I hope you just read that, it is the most important point on this page!

Getting a nice set of abs is not so hard. The abdominals are a large muscle group that respond very effectively to stimulation in most people. Care must be taken with the abs and approaching it intelligently is vital. If you build this muscle group without paying close attention to presentation, you can actually end up with a large over sized mid rift for all your work. Proportion and presentation is the key.

It’s a strange contradiction that most people fail to recognize. The logic goes, if I am working my abs, I must make them grow bigger. But the truth is you are not. You are putting in effort to make the mid section as SMALL as possible compared to you upper body. In this way you get the attractive V shape.

Lose a few pounds a week over the next month and watch how nice and good your abs begin to look!

How To Lose Weight The Healthy Way

November 15, 2007 on 8:46 pm | In Health & Wellness | No Comments

In losing weight, getting all the help you can get is important. Help can come in the form of support groups that provide you with counseling and guidance so you can lose weight more effectively and maintain a healthy body.

Every day thousands of people go on crash diets and lose a lot of weight very quickly. This however is not the best way to trim down in a healthy manner, and most of the weight lost while on a crash diet tends to come back, not stay off.

Many refer to an online weight loss support group to help them lose weight. The beauty of an online weight loss support group is that you have the option of maintaining secrecy while achieving your weight loss goals at the same time.

If you’re trying to lose weight, you know how difficult and challenging it can be at times. Here are some tried and true tips for healthy weight loss.

Healthy Weight Loss Tip #1: Drink plenty of water. Incredible as it may seems, water is quite possibly the single most important catalyst in losing weight and keeping it off. Although most of us take it for granted, water may be the only true “magic potion” for permanent weight loss.

Healthy Weight Loss Tip #2: Walk at least thirty minutes every day. You don’t necessarily have to walk. Any kind of exercise that will get you up and moving works great. The point is to move your body every day.

Healthy Weight Loss Tip #3: Reduce your portion size. Don’t be a victim of “portion distortion”. We live in a “super size” society and it shows. Most of us eat more than we need to at any given meal, which translates in to excess calories that will be stored as fat.

Healthy Weight Loss Tip #4: Eliminate sodas and junk food. Again, this isn’t easy, especially if you’re used to drinking lots of sodas throughout the day. Start slow by cutting your intake by half for a week. The next week, cut it in half again. Easy does it, and you don’t have to cut it all out at once.

Many successful weight loss programs consist of three small meals and two to three snacks everyday. Why, Because this is the best way to burn excess calories (stored fat), avoid overeating, keep your blood sugar and insulin levels stable and keep you energize and satisfied.

Eating or not eating affects hormone levels. When you skip a meal your body releases a hormone that can cause muscle loss. When you want to lose weight you want it to be fat not muscle. Make it a point not to skip meals and to have a light snack between meals.

How Water Keeps the Fat Away

November 6, 2007 on 1:33 am | In Health & Wellness | 1 Comment

Incredible as it may seems, water is quite possibly the single most important catalyst in losing weight and keeping it off. Although most of us take it for granted, water may be the only true “magic potion” for permanent weight loss.

Water naturally suppresses the appetite and helps the body metabolize stored fat. Studies have shown that a decrease in water intake will cause fat deposits to increase, while an increase in water intake can actually reduce fat deposits.

Here is why: The kidneys can’t function properly without enough water. When they don’t work to capacity, some of their load is dumped onto the liver.

One of the liver’s prymary functions is to metabolize stored fat into usable energy for the body. But, if the liver has to do some of the kidney’s work, it can’t operate at full throtle. As a result, it metabolizes less fat, thus more fat remains stored in the body and weight loss stops.

Drinking enough water is the best treatment for fluid retention. When the body gets less water, it perceives this as a treat to survival ans begins to hold onto every drop. Water is stored in extracellular spaces (outside the cells). This shows up as swollen feet, legs and hands.

Diuretics offer a temporary solution at best. They force out stored water along with some essential nutrients. Again, the body perceives a threat and will replace the lost water at the first opportunity. Thus the condition quickly returns.

The best way to overcome the problem of water retention is to give your body what it needs - plenty of water. Only then will stored water be released.

If you have a constant problem with water retention, excess salt may be to blame. your body will tolerate sodium only in a certain concentration. The more salt you eat, the more water your system retains to dilute it.

But getting rid of unneeded salt is easy - just drink more water. As it is forced through the kidneys it takes away excess sodium.

The overweigh person needs more water than the thin one. Larger people have larger metabolic loads. Since we know that water is the key to fat metabolism, it follows that the overweight person needs more water.

Water helps maintain proper muscle tone by giving muscles the natural ability to contract and by preventing dehydration. It also helps to prevent the sagging skin that usually follows weight loss. Shirnking cells are buoyedd by water, which plumps the skin and leaves it clear, healthy and resilient.

Water helps rid the body of water. During weight loss, the body has alot more waste to get rid of - all the metabolized fat must be shed. Again, adecuate water helps flush out the water.

Water can help relieve constipation. When the body gets to little water, it siphons what it needs from internal sources. The colon is one primary source. Result? Constipation. But when a person drinks enough water, normal bowel function usually returns.

So far we’ve discovered some remarkable truths about water and weight loss.

How much water is enough? On the average, a person should drink half of the body weight in ounces, example; if a person weights 150 lbs. that person should drink at least 75 ounces of water everyday, and it’s best to have small amounts throughout the day. Four ounces of water every 30 minutes to one hour - is much more balanced than guzzling all at one time.

When the body gets the water it needs to function optimally, its fluids are perfectly balanced. When this happens you have reached the “breaking point”.

If you stop drinking enough water, your body fluids wll be thrown out of balance again, and you may experience fluid retention, unexplained weight gain, and loss of thirst. To remedy th situation you’ll have to go back and force another “breakthrough”.
